Move over, Utah it’s Taco Tuesday, and we’re taking the concept of getting “dirty” to a whole new, elevated level. While everyone else is swirling coconut cream and soda, we’re pairing agave with olive brine, black volcanic salt, and a trio of classic pimiento olives.
Meet The Dirty Margarita: the wild, gorgeous, unapologetic lovechild of a sharp Mexican Tequila cocktail and a classic savory Dirty Martini.
If you love a Mexican Firing Squad, a spicy Jalapeño Salt rim, or a extra-briny Martini, this cocktail is about to hijack your weekly taco night routine. It’s citrusy, delightfully salty, savory, and downright delicious alongside a plate of hot carnitas or crispy fish tacos.
The Dirty Margarita
Yield: 1 Cocktail
Prep Time: 3 Minutes
Ingredients
- 2 oz Blanco Tequila (100% Blue Agave)
- 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- ¾ oz Olive Brine (straight from your favorite olive jar)
- ½ oz Agave Nectar
- ¼ oz Cranberry Juice for that perfect light pink blush
- Black Lava Salt (or coarse black sea salt), for the rim
- Garnish: A fresh lime wheel & 3 pimiento-stuffed olives skewered on a pick
Instructions
- Prep the Glass: Take a rocks glass and rim half of the outside with a fresh lime wedge. Roll the damp edge in black lava salt to create a dramatic, moody rim, then fill the glass with large ice cubes.
- Shake It Up: In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the blanco tequila, fresh lime juice, olive brine, agave nectar, and your splash of cranberry juice (or hibiscus).
- Get Dirty: Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well-chilled.
- Pour & Garnish: Strain the light pink mixture into your prepared rocks glass over ice. Nestled inside, place a fresh lime wheel and rest your skewer of three pimiento-stuffed olives across the rim.
