January 8, 2024

This isn’t just a cocktail; it’s a botanical garden with a tequila twist! This exquisite cocktail is a symphony of flavors, combining the earthiness of basil with the sweet tang of blueberries, all underpinned by the boldness of tequila. It’s a drink that’s as much a conversation starter as it is a palate pleaser.

  • 1 cup Fresh Blueberries (plus extra for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp Sugar (for roasting blueberries)
  • 2 oz Tequila (Blanco or Reposado works well)
  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • Fresh Basil Leaves (plus extra for garnish)
  • Ice cubes
  • Salt and Sugar Mixture for the rim

  • Roast the Blueberries: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Toss blueberries in sugar and spread them on a baking sheet. Roast for about 15 minutes until they release their juices but are not too mushy. Let them cool.
  • Prepare the Rim: Combine equal parts of salt and sugar on a plate. Moisten the rim of your glass with a lime wedge and gently dip it into the salt-sugar mixture.
  • Muddle the Flavors: In a shaker, muddle the roasted blueberries and a few basil leaves. This step is crucial; it’s where the magic begins, releasing all the flavors and aromas.
  • Mix the Drink: Add tequila, lime juice, simple syrup, and ice to the shaker. Shake vigorously – think of it as a mini workout before the reward!
  • Serve with Style: Strain the mixture into your prepared glass. Add ice if desired.
  • Garnish and Enjoy: Garnish with fresh blueberries and a basil leaf. The vibrant colors make this drink a feast for the eyes as well as the palate.
