Mexican Dirty Shirley: A Playful Tequila Twist

September 24, 2025
Shirley Sucia AKA Dirty Shirley

The Dirty Shirley has been called the cocktail of the summer

A boozy spin on the childhood favorite Shirley Temple, but what if we gave it a Mexican twist? Swap out vodka for smooth blanco tequila, and suddenly you have a cocktail that’s refreshing, fun, and totally taco-party worthy: The Mexican Dirty Shirley.

This drink is perfect for girls’ night, Taco Tuesday happy hours, or anytime you want a nostalgic sip with grown-up flair.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz El Jimador Blanco
  • 4 oz lemon-lime soda (like Sprite or 7UP)
  • ½ oz grenadine (for that signature sweet cherry kick)
  • Maraschino cherries, for garnish
  • Ice

Directions

  • Fill a highball glass with ice.
  • Pour in the blanco tequila.
  • Top with lemon-lime soda.
  • Slowly drizzle in the grenadine—it will sink and then swirl up for that gorgeous “sunset” effect.
  • Garnish with maraschino cherries (the more the merrier).

Serving Ideas

Pair with spicy tacos like al pastor or chipotle chicken—the sweet soda balances the heat.

For an extra festive vibe, serve with a sugar-rimmed glass (colored sugar in bright pink or red looks so fun).

Want to make it extra? Add a squeeze of fresh lime or a Tajín rim for a tangy kick.

The Mexican Dirty Shirley is playful, nostalgic, and guaranteed to make you smile. It’s the kind of cocktail that sparks conversation and pairs beautifully with tacos.
