The Mayahuel Margarita: A Goddess in a Glass

October 19, 2026
the Mayahuel margarita

Blanco tequila, fresh pineapple, and lime come together in an elegant margarita created in honor of Mayahuel.

Pale gold in the glass, with a thin wheel of lime floating on its surface, the Mayahuel Margarita brings a little beauty to the table before the first sip. Fresh pineapple gives it a soft tropical sweetness, lime adds brightness, and blanco tequila keeps agave at the heart of the drink.

It feels right at home among green leaves, warm wood, and the last light of the afternoon. The kind of cocktail you bring outside when dinner is nearly ready and everyone has found a comfortable place to sit.

A Toast to Mayahuel

In Mexica tradition, Mayahuel is associated with maguey, or agave, and with pulque, the fermented drink made from its sap. Nahua stories also connect her to the plant’s symbolism of fertility. It is a history that gives her name a meaningful place in a conversation about agave.

Our Mayahuel Margarita is a modern dedication to that legacy. We wanted it to feel like a small celebration of growing things: the brightness of lime, the sweetness of pineapple, and the agave that brings the cocktail together.

The presentation follows the same idea. A delicate lime wheel is lovely on its own. For a more sculptural finish, a few small pineapple leaves can fan upward from the glass, echoing the reaching leaves of an agave plant.

Either way, give it a beautiful glass and a little space to shine.

Bright, Golden, and Ready for the Table

This margarita brings fresh pineapple into the familiar combination of tequila, lime, and orange liqueur. The pineapple adds fruit and a gentle roundness, while the lime keeps each sip lively. A little agave syrup softens the citrus and ties the flavors together.

Served up in a chilled coupe or stemmed margarita glass, it makes a graceful beginning to taco night. We’d pair it with grilled shrimp tacos, chicken with salsa verde, or roasted cauliflower tucked into warm tortillas with a little chile and plenty of fresh herbs.

Set out something good to share, squeeze the limes, and let the evening take its time.

Mayahuel Margarita Recipe

Makes: 1 cocktail
Prep time: 5 minutes
Glass: Chilled coupe or stemmed margarita glass, preferably 8–10 ounces

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces blanco tequila
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 1 ounce fresh pineapple juice
  • ¾ ounce orange liqueur
  • ½ ounce agave syrup
  • Ice, for shaking
  • 1 thin lime wheel, for garnish
  • 2–3 small, washed pineapple leaves, for an optional decorative garnish
  • Fine sea salt and a lime wedge, for an optional rim

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glass. Chill your coupe or margarita glass. If you’d like a salted rim, run a lime wedge around half of the outside rim and gently dip it into fine sea salt.
  2. Build the cocktail. Add the tequila, lime juice, pineapple juice, orange liqueur, and agave syrup to a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice.
  3. Shake well. Shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds, until the shaker feels very cold.
  4. Strain and pour. Strain through the shaker’s strainer and a fine mesh strainer into the chilled glass. This removes small ice fragments and pineapple fibers for a smoother finish.
  5. Add the final touch. Float a thin lime wheel on the surface. If using pineapple leaves, arrange them at the back of the glass in a small fan to suggest the shape of an agave plant. Serve immediately.

A Little Attention Makes It Lovely

Use freshly squeezed lime juice and pineapple juice without added sugar. If you’re making the pineapple juice yourself, blend pieces of ripe pineapple and pass the juice through a fine mesh strainer before measuring.

A chilled glass is especially welcome here, since the cocktail is served without ice. Put it in the refrigerator while you prepare the ingredients, or fill it with ice water and empty it just before pouring.

Then carry it to the table.

A toast to Mayahuel, to the beauty of the earth, and to the simple magic of sharing something lovely.
